A death investigation is ongoing after a body was discovered in Phenix City Friday afternoon.

The body, which was decomposed, was found on Brickyard Road in the city, Russell County Coroner Arthur Sumbry Jr. confirmed.  The body is unidentified and was pronounced deceased at 2:52 P.M. on Friday, October 27, 2023.

The body is being sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Science for an autopsy on Monday.
