A sweet 71-year-old grandmother is deceased after gunfire erupted in an east Columbus neighborhood on January 16th, but this isn’t the first time gunfire erupted on the same street in the same week.

The first initial confirmed gunshots reported in the area occurred on January 14th around 12:40 PM when a vehicle drove by some houses on the street and opened fire.

Gunfire erupted again on the east Columbus street on January 15th at 1:50 in the morning. Multiple gunshots were also discovered by residents. Security cameras show a vehicle driving by and opening fire on houses in the area.

Moments before the shooting on January 16th were also captured including the gunshots being discharged. 71-year-old Barbara Luke was driving her black SUV around 2:03PM down Delray Drive when a vehicle opened fire. At least one of the gunshots struck Luke. Luke, while operating the SUV, struck a tree and crashed.

Neighbors in the area came to the rescue as first responders were being dispatched to the scene. Neighbors covered Luke in blankets and took care of Luke. Medics arrived on scene and began CPR but were unsuccessful.

This was the first homicide for 2022 in Columbus. Last year at January 17th, Columbus already had 3 homicides, and the year before that, Columbus had 4 homicides.
