Law enforcement official shot, two others injured in shooting on Andrews Road

An investigation is underway after a law enforcement official and one subject were shot in a shooting on Andrews Road

The Columbus Police Department was engaged in a motor vehicle pursuit of a stolen vehicle, which was later terminated around 3:24 PM today. The same stolen vehicle then struck a Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office vehicle, operated by a Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant, in the area of Andrews Road and East Central Street. The Sergeant was not involved in the initial pursuit of this stolen vehicle. Immediately after the motor vehicle accident between the stolen vehicle and the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office vehicle, the occupants of the stolen vehicle exited their vehicle and opened fire on the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant. This resulted in the Deputy being struck by gunfire. The Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant returned fire and struck multiple occupants of the vehicle.

Both the Sergeant and one of the occupants that was struck by gunfire, were transported to the hospital for emergency medical treatment. Both are currently in stable condition. In addition to the occupant who was struck by gunfire and immediately apprehended, two other suspects were apprehended by members of the Columbus Police Department.

“The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has been notified, as is standard practice for all Deputy involved shootings. All comments surrounding the investigation of this matter will come from the GBI, from this point forth,” the release said.

Quote from Sheriff Greg Countryman:

“Today highlights the incredibly brave actions of a Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant, who performed his duties to secure the safety and well-being of the Citizens of Muscogee County. This is an absolute tragedy. It is one of the worst situations for any Deputy, their family, or their co-workers, to endure. I ask the residents of Muscogee County to stand with the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office, as we give our love, prayers, and support to our Sergeant and his family. I also want to ask you all to pray for all members of law enforcement. We have multiple agencies working together to resolve the current violence in our community and they need your support. The manhunt for any and all individuals that are determined to have been involved in this heinous act against our Sergeant will continue, until every last one of them is captured and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Regardless of where you run or hide, we will hunt you down and bring you to justice. Anyone with information regarding this incident can call our anonymous tip line at 706-225-4285. All calls and caller information will remain anonymous.”
