Family of Columbus man, who was shot and killed by off duty officer outside of club, releases statement

The family of 32-year-old Alonzo Carter, the Columbus man was shot and killed by an off duty officer working security for Club Flame on Armour Road, has released a statement.

The press release says, “The family of Alonzo Carter would like to express that their family and close friends are currently experiencing the utmost sorrow due to the unexpected loss of their loved one.”

The release said that Alonzo was a caring father, a brother, a son and a friend to many.

“His death at the hands of an undercover law enforcement officer is devastating,” the release added. “They are currently pursuing additional information about the events that occurred in the early morning hours of March 11, 2022 and request that any cell phone footage or other relevant information be directed to an email they have set up for this purpose. Please send any footage to clubshootinginformation@gmail.com.”

The release also added, “the family is asking that any online footage be taken down as they do not desire their loved one to be displayed in such manner.”

Carter was shot multiple times and was pronounced deceased on scene at 3:25 AM. His death is going to mark the 9th homicide for 2022.

A female was also shot and taken to Piedmont Emergency Room in unknown condition.
