Shooting inside Phenix City Walmart; Police investigating

A shooting investigation is underway after gunfire erupted inside the Phenix City Walmart Super-center off of U.S. Highway 280.

After the shooting incident occurred by the multiple subjects, the subjects were involved in a high speed chase throughout Lee County, Opelika, and Auburn jurisdictions. The chase ended in a wreck in the 2500 block of Wrights Mill Road. One female is in custody. At least one other male subject is still on the run. A weapon is believed to have been discovered in the car during a search.

Alabama State Troopers is also on scene searching for the male, along with Opelika Police Department, Lee County Sheriff’s Office, and Auburn Police Department. An AUBURN PUBLIC SAFETY Alert was issued in the area of Wrights Mill Road / Chewacla Park suggesting everyone in the area to stay indoors and away from area, The sought subject is a black male and is armed.

It is unknown if someone was shot but we do know shots were fired. Officers with the department have established the crime scene as customers were leaving the Walmart headed toward the parking lot.
