UPDATE – 11:12 P.M. on 6/15/22: We are now being told by sources that a female, who was paralyzed, was unable to get out of the fire and perished. The husband of the woman tried to save his wife but unfortunately couldn’t. He was able to get out in time. Authorities with Phenix City departments and Russell County Coroner’s Office are investigating. It is unknown what led up to the fire. ORIGINAL STORY: Phenix City emergency responders are on the scene of a house fire early Wednesday evening on U.S. Highway 165 near Sunderlan Drive.
It is unknown if any injuries occurred in the fire. Authorities have blocked off the highway due to the fire.
