New information is surfacing nearly 15 hours later after a gunman opened fire during an event Thursday evening at a Vestavia Hills, Alabama church.
Vestavia Hills Police Department along with several law enforcement agencies and fire departments responded to Saint Stephen’s Episcopal Church at 3775 Crosshaven Drive Vestavia Hills, AL for a call of an active shooter at approximately 6:22 PM central time.
The gunman, identified as a 71-year-old white male, shot 3 people before being subdued by a churchgoer during the Boomers’ Potluck at the church.
84-year-old Irondale man, Walter Rainey, was pronounced dead on scene. 75-year-old Pelham woman, Sarah Yeager, was transported to UAB and was pronounced dead there. 84-year-old Hoover woman was injured.
Warrants for the charge of Capital Murder are still in the process and authorities expect that is when the name of the lone suspect will be released. Authorities are investigating.
