Florida man visiting Columbus killed in crash

A fatal motor vehicle accident investigation is underway by Columbus Police Department Motor Squad detectives.

The accident, which occurred early this morning on JR Allen at Exit 4, left a Jacksonville, Florida man dead, Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan confirmed Tuesday night. The man was visiting Columbus, Georgia, alongside his brother.

The man was identified as 79-year-old Ronald Middlebrook. Middlebrook was pronounced deceased at 5:23 P.M. in the intensive care unit at Piedmont Columbus Regional Midtown Campus hospital. Middlebrook was the passenger in a vehicle driven by his brother.

Middlebrook will be going to the Georgia Bureau of Investigations in Decatur, Georgia for an autopsy. Charges are pending and an investigation is underway. Middlebrook’s family has been notified.
