Authorities are investigating the second homicide of February 1st in Russell County after a child was shot and killed in Phenix City.

The child, identified as a 12-year-old boy, was shot on U.S. Highway 80 near Wynn Road on February 1, 2023. The boy was pronounced deceased on scene at 8:53 P.M., Russell County Coroner Arthur Sumbry Jr. confirmed to CNAW2NEWS.com

The boy will be sent to Montgomery, Alabama for a postmortem examination. It is unknown what led up to the shooting.

The first deadly shooting of February 1st occurred in Hurtsboro leaving one man dead.
