A 22-year-old Phenix City man is dead after being shot Saturday afternoon.

The shooting occurred in the 2700 block of Sixth Street in the city around 3 P.M. on Saturday, February 4, 2023. The victim, identified as 22-year-old Daeqwon Mackey, was taken to Piedmont Columbus Regional emergency room  where Mackey was pronounced deceased, Russell County Coroner Arthur Sumbry Jr. confirmed to CNAW2NEWS.com. Mackey would have been 23 on February 18th.

Mackey’s body will be sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Science in Montgomery for a postmortem examination. This is the third homicide for Russell County since January 31st.
