Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office arrests two validated gang members

The Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office Drug, Gang, and Fugitive Unit and the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Patrol Units were conducting crime suppression operations in the Beallwood area of Muscogee County today, Wednesday, March 22, 2023.

Investigators conducted a traffic stop on a red Honda Civic for an Expired State Tag. Once the vehicle stopped, the passenger got out of the vehicle and fled on foot. He was later identified as Aaron London, a validated gang member. The subject was quickly apprehended and taken into custody.

London had several outstanding warrants, including a Bench Warrant in Russell County for Aggravated Assault, an outstanding warrant for Aggravated Assault with Phenix City Police Department, and a Burglary warrant with Columbus Police Department.

“Once in custody, London admitted to ingesting a quantity of narcotics and he was transported to Piedmont Hospital by Sheriff’s Investigators,” authorities said. “After being cleared by the hospital he was transported to the Muscogee County Jail.”

Also on Wednesday, March 22nd, 2023, the Russell County Sheriff’s Office attempted to apprehend Javontis Dashawn Powell, a wanted fugitive and known gang member, who had outstanding warrants in Alabama and Georgia. Russell County Sheriff’s Office Investigators attempted to stop Powell as he drove a Dodge Charger in Phenix City. Powell fled from Russell County Sheriff’s Office, who pursued the vehicle into Muscogee County. Russell County Sheriff’s Office lost sight of the vehicle in an area of South Columbus, as members of the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office and Columbus Police Department responded to the area to assist.

“Members of the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office located the abandoned vehicle in Oak Hill Trailor Park,” authorities added. “After canvasing the area, members of the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office apprehended Javontis Powell on the railroad tracks, near the location of the abandoned vehicle.”

Javontis Powell was transported to the Muscogee County Jail for 2 counts of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Felony Fleeing and Attempting to Elude Law Enforcement, Reckless Driving, Failure to Maintain Lane, and Possession of Drug Related Objects.

Powell had an outstanding warrant with the Hinesville Georgia Police Department for Failure to Appear for Court to answer for a charge of Obstruction of a Law Enforcement Officer.

“It should be noted that Powell was recently arrested by the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office Drug, Gang, and Fugitive Unit and the US Marshal’s Southeast Fugitive Task Force on February 28th, 2022, on outstanding warrants for Attempted Murder, Kidnapping, and Armed Robbery that were issued by the Phenix City Police Department,” authorities included in their report.

The vehicle Powell was operating, during this incident, was also used by suspects that shot at a Muscogee County Sheriff’s Investigator and K9 on February 17th, 2023.

These are preliminary charges, as this case will remain under investigation by the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office and the Russell County Sheriff’s Office. There are additional charges expected pending the investigation.
