A teenage boy has died in a Monday afternoon shooting near a Columbus recreation center.

Columbus police and fire/EMS officials responded to 2824 8th Street after 5:30 P.M. on Monday, September 18, 2023 where they found a person shot.

Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan says the victim, identified as 15-year-old Deshungia Lindsey, was pronounced dead at 5:48 P.M. at the Piedmont Columbus Regional emergency room. Lindsey suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

Violent Crimes investigators have been called out to the scene, along with crime scene investigators. This is the second juvenile shot and killed today. The first fatal shooting occurred at 3390 N. Lumpkin Road this morning.
