Columbus officials were called to an accidental death scene Saturday afternoon in a residential neighborhood.

The death occurred on Buckhorn Drive in the afternoon hours of Saturday, September 23, 2023. Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan identified the deceased person as 40-year-old Donald Wayne Ritter Jr.

Ritter Jr. was knocked off the tree top while cutting it down and was later pronounced dead at 2:44 P.M by Muscogee County Deputy Coroner Ben Saxon.

The decedent’s family has been notified.
