A homicide investigation is underway this weekend after a Saturday shooting victim passed away in the intensive care unit today.

Columbus police say the shooting occurred near the intersection of Shelby at Douglas streets on Saturday, September 23, 2024. The victim was found at a nearby gas station in the 2000 block of Fort Benning Road.

The victim was transported by an ambulance to Piedmont Columbus Regional. Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan identified the victim as 23-year-old Joseph Antonio Lopez Rodriguez. Rodriquez was pronounced deceased at 2:55 P.M. today, September 24, 2023, in the hospital’s intensive care unit.
