Columbus police are investigating a head on collision on the city’s east side at a busy intersection.

The collision occurred at the intersection of Macon Road and Flat Rock Road near Schatulga Road in the afternoon hours of Saturday, June 8, 2024. 

The collision involved a Silver Toyota RAV4 and a blue Honda Civic. Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan says 62-year-old Tonya Lumpkin-Dees was transported to Piedmont Columbus Regional and was pronounced deceased. Lumpkin-Dees will be transported to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation for an autopsy.

At least four others were injured. The Motor Squad of the Columbus Police Department remains investigating.
