Shooting reported at Opelika apartment complex; one dead

UPDATE 3: Detectives were able to identify the shooter as the victim’s son, 23-year-old Marquet Devon Turk Jr. With the assistance of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency and the Montgomery Police Department, Turk Jr. was apprehended in Montgomery, AL. Turk Jr. is charged with the murder of his father and was transported to Lee County Jail.

UPDATE 2: The Lee County Coroner Daniel Sexton has identified the man killed in a shooting today. Marquet Devon Turk Sr., 43, of Opelika, AL was pronounced on scene at 12:54 CT after an unsuccessful resuscitation attempt by Fire & EMS personal.  Mr. Turk will be transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences Montgomery Medical Facility for postmortem exam.

UPDATE 1: Opelika police have confirmed a 43-year-old male was shot at Woodbend Apartments. Officers and EMTs attempted lifesaving measures, however the victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene. This incident remains under investigation by the Opelika Police Department.
