Tragedy has struck in India after a plane carrying over 200 people crashed leaving many dead and chaos among the country.

Air India Flight AI171, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner bound for London, crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad, India, on June 12, 2025. The plane, carrying 242 people, lost contact with air traffic control less than a minute into the flight and crashed into a residential area near Meghani Nagar, striking a medical college hostel.
At least 204 people have been confirmed dead, including five fatalities on the ground. One survivor, seated in 11A, was pulled from the wreckage. Victims included passengers from India, the UK, Portugal, Canada, and others.
Rescue teams, including the Indian Army and NDRF, responded quickly. Leaders worldwide have offered condolences, including Indian Prime Minister Modi, UK Prime Minister Starmer, and King Charles.
Preliminary data suggests possible engine failure or power loss during takeoff, according to Times of India. Investigators from India, the US, UK, and Boeing are working to determine the cause.
