Richard Cooley secures a new term as Smiths Station Mayor; election results here

Smiths Station residents have re-elected their mayor, Richard Cooley. Cooley won the election against his opponent, Lisa Deason. Cooley secured 349 votes, while Deason received 326 votes.

Cooley became Smiths Station Mayor in 2023, and has continued his work since.

Cooley has dedicated more than 40 years to public education serving in senior roles, such as superintendent. Cooley served on city council since 2004, before becoming mayor.

During his leadership, the city has seen the groundbreaking of a 500+ capacity Community Storm Shelter, road improvements, new economic development, and stronger partnerships. Cooley ran his campaign on promises for the city’s future, strengthening the city’s government, building a safer city, and other top issues.

Cooley made a statement on social media saying, “Thank you to the people of Smiths Station! I am incredibly honored to be serving as your Mayor for a full term! Now, let’s get to work!”
