Three men have been sentenced to life in prison for the 2024 shooting death of 16-year-old Dennie Henderson outside the Springhill Suites on Whittlesey Boulevard.
On Thursday, Ty’Quavious Richmond, Patrick Montgomery, Jr., and Dereon Montgomery each received life with the possibility of parole, plus five additional years for Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime.
The sentences follow an October 3, 2025, verdict in which a Muscogee County jury found all three men guilty of Malice Murder, Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault, and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime after a trial that began September 29.
The charges stem from a March 24, 2024, shooting in the parking lot of the Springhill Suites, where police responding to reports of gunfire discovered Henderson deceased from multiple gunshot wounds.
During the investigation, detectives determined that Richmond and the Montgomery brothers acted together in the events leading to the teen’s death. Evidence collected at the scene and through digital forensics confirmed the presence and involvement of all three defendants.
A warrant was issued for Ty’Quavious Richmond on May 15, 2024, and he was arrested the following day. Patrick Montgomery, Jr. and Dereon Montgomery were taken into custody in Lee County, Alabama, on September 17, 2024, and extradited to Columbus the next day.
The case was led by the Columbus Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit, with support from the Digital Forensics Unit and the Real Time Crime Center. Police officials also thanked the District Attorney’s Office for their role in prosecuting the case and securing the convictions.
