Man arrested in reckless driving, DUI case in Lee County

A Phenix City man was arrested in Lee County today after reckless driving.

The driving incident began around 4:30 p.m. central standard time on Monday, January 12, 2026, in the eastbound lanes of U.S. Highway 280 in Opelika with a male driver behind the wheel of a black Mazda.

CNAW2News spoke with the eyewitness to the incident who said the Mazda drove recklessly down the highway, tailing multiple vehicles, and even leaving the roadway near Lee Road 187 on the highway causing a tire to fall off.

We are told Lee County deputies and Alabama Law Enforcement Agency were able to pull him over near Lee Road 254 on the highway. The driver has been identified as 33-year-old Jonathan Tyler Brown. Brown was booked into the Lee County Jail and was given an active bond of $1,500.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
