UPDATE: Shorter Volunteer Fire Department has confirmed new details regarding this crash.
They say two trucks collided and came to rest on the shoulder of the highway in a water way.
One driver was safely extricated from the vehicle in the water and transported for further medical care. The other driver received minor injuries.
There were no life threatening injuries.

UPDATE: Roadway reopen.
A two-vehicle crash has shut down a lane of travel on Interstate 85 this morning.
The crash occurred around 9 a.m. on Monday, January 12, 2026, on Interstate 85 near mile marker 24 in Macon County.
The right southbound lane is closed while officials work in the area and will remain closed for an extended period.
Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Highway Patrol Division are currently on scene investigating and will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates accordingly.
