A death investigation is underway in Chambers County.
The investigation began when deputies found a deceased 46-year-old white female with a gunshot wound to the head on County Road 548 at 8:30 a.m. on January 16, 2026.
Lanett EMS and the Chambers County Coroner’s Office responded to scene along with deputies and investigators.
“At this time, it is believed that the gunshot wound was self inflicted,” authorities said. “The victim has been identified but we are unable to release her name at this time.”
Her body will be transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy. The investigation is ongoing by the sheriff’s office’s Criminal Investigation Division.
