Columbus sees zero homicides in January

Crime is down in the city of Columbus, and the data is showing it.

As of 12:01 a.m. on February 1st, Columbus saw zero homicides in January. The last homicide to occur in the city was on November 16, 2025 — 76 days to this date.

A record the city hasn’t seen since at least a decade ago.

In 2025, the city saw 31 homicides, 27 of which were murders, two self defense, and one involuntary manslaughter and one still under investigation. In 2025, violent crime was down by nearly 30 percent.

So far in 2026, between Jan. 1 and Jan. 27, officers investigated 14 robberies, 29 aggravated assaults, 31 burglaries, 256 larcenies, and 16 theft by taking a motor vehicle. Zero murders or rapes occurred in that time frame.

Officers have investigated a total of 346 part one crimes this year. CNAW2News.com did report on several shootings this month – which left a total of seven wounded.

Last year, between Jan. 1 and Jan. 27, officers investigated one murder, 12 robberies, 32 aggravated assaults, 44 burglaries, 303 larcenies, and 36 theft by taking motor vehicles, with a total of 428 part one crimes.
