Gun rights organizations announce endorsement of Cam Hunt for Lee County Sheriff position

Election season is heating up in Lee County, and endorsements have begun.

Cam Hunt, who is a candidate for the position of Lee County Sheriff, was recently endorsed by several gun rights organizations. Hunt is running against current Sheriff Jay Jones in the May election. Jones has served as sheriff since 1998 and is currently in the seventh term.

BamaCarry and the National Association for Gun Rights PAC jointly endorsed Cam Hunt for Lee County Sheriff in the 2026 election earlier this week. Organizers say his strong support for the Second Amendment and Constitutional Carry led to the endorsement.

“This race is a clear choice between a candidate who respects the Constitution and one who has actively worked against it,” said Linda McKinney, President of BamaCarry. “Cam Hunt understands that the right to self-defense is fundamental. Unlike his opponent, who aligned himself with the establishment gun control lobby to oppose Constitutional Carry, Cam Hunt will defend the Second Amendment without compromise.”

Organizers say “Hunt’s record stands in contrast to incumbent Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones.” According to a report from AL.com, Jones testified against constitutional carry as permitless carry legislation advanced through the Alabama.

“Cam Hunt is the only 100% pro-gun candidate in this race,” said Taylor Rhodes, spokesman for the National Association for Gun Rights PAC. “While the current sheriff used his office to oppose Constitutional Carry, Cam Hunt stands shoulder to shoulder with law-abiding gun owners. A sheriff’s job is to uphold the Constitution, not lobby against it.”
