One victim found, suspect in custody after Opelika police respond to active shooter call

A developing scene is underway in Opelika after law enforcement responded to reports of an active shooter.

Police responded to the scene at Arbor Place Apartments on Fox Run Parkway around 10:56 a.m. Wednesday, March 25, 2026.

Police say one victim was found in a vehicle with gunshot wounds. One suspect is in custody at this time.

When the call came in, four Opelika City Schools were placed on lockdown to ensure the safety of the students. Once it was confirmed that the suspect was in custody, the lockdown was lifted. 

The Lee County Coroner’s Office arrived on the scene around noon central time.

This remains an active investigation.
