A 33-year-old woman was killed Monday morning after being struck by a vehicle on Macon Road in Upatoi.

According to Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan, Beunkus Shaniqua Collins, 33, was struck by a motor vehicle in the 13300 block of Macon Road.

Bryan said Collins suffered blunt force trauma and was pronounced deceased at the scene at approximately 5:49 a.m. Monday, Aug. 31, near 13334 Macon Road.

The Columbus Police Department initially reported that officers were investigating a vehicle-versus-pedestrian crash in the area, with eastbound lanes blocked while the department’s Motor Squad investigated.

Bryan said the incident is being considered an accidental death and no charges are pending at this time.

Collins’ family has been notified.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash remains ongoing.
