Columbus City Manager Tyson Begly has selected Edward Allen Minton to serve as the first Director of the newly created Facilities Maintenance Department, pending approval by Columbus Council.

Begly is expected to bring Minton’s appointment before Columbus Council for consideration during the council’s next scheduled business meeting on Tuesday, October 13, 2026.

Minton has served with the Columbus Consolidated Government’s Facilities Maintenance Division since June 2023 and has served as Interim Director since December 2025. He brings more than 20 years of experience in facility maintenance and building management.

According to the city, Minton has experience overseeing subcontractors, work crews and various building trades. During his time with CCG, he also worked closely with the late Johnny Harp to learn the operations and maintenance needs associated with the city’s more than 600 facilities and related properties, including restrooms, concession stands, statues and other city assets.

Minton also works closely with CCG’s Project Manager on new and renovated facilities, including the Judicial Center, Synovus Park, the newly renovated Sheriff’s Office, new pools and splash pads, the renovated City Hall, the jail, MCP and other existing city buildings.
Begly said Minton’s background and experience will provide continuity as CCG establishes the new department.

Minton comes recommended by a selection committee consisting of Deputy City Managers Lisa Goodwin and Pam Hodge, Finance Director Angelica Alexander and Human Resources Director Ola Terrell.

Minton was born and raised in Columbus and currently lives in the city. He is a graduate of Columbus State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration.
He and his wife, Brandy, have been married for 10 years. They have four children and three grandchildren.

If approved by Council, Minton will become CCG’s first Director of Facilities Maintenance.
