Arrest made, second suspect sought after 13 shots fired near Lake Martin Beach Club

A 19-year-old has been arrested and charged in connection with a shooting that sent bullets into an occupied vehicle and Creekside Lodge near Lake Martin Beach Club, according to the Tallapoosa County Sheriff’s Office. A second suspect remains at large.

Sheriff’s investigators say the shooting happened shortly before midnight on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2026, after deputies responded to growing concerns about a disturbance involving a large crowd at Lake Martin Beach Club.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies decided to clear the establishment shortly before midnight, requiring patrons to exit into the parking lot and leave. While deputies and officers from neighboring agencies worked to clear the parking lot, they separated several groups involved in multiple verbal altercations. At least one arrest was made during those efforts.

As a white Honda Accord exited the parking lot and traveled north on Highway 49, an individual was witnessed firing a gun at least 13 times toward remaining attendees and law enforcement, investigators said.

During the gunfire, an occupied vehicle and Creekside Lodge were struck by bullets. No injuries were reported.

Criminal investigators responded to the scene and began collecting video evidence and witness statements. Through the investigation, authorities identified 19-year-old Lajayvious Antwon Calhoun, also known as “Baby J,” and 30-year-old Corzavious D’onta Dre’shon Johnson as suspects in the shooting.

On Tuesday, Oct. 20, Calhoun was taken into custody with assistance from the Alexander City Police Department and the Tallapoosa County Narcotics Task Force.

According to the sheriff’s office, Calhoun faces 13 counts of reckless endangerment and two counts of shooting into an occupied vehicle or dwelling.

The sheriff’s office said Johnson, also known as “Dre,” remains at large.

Authorities noted that, effective Oct. 1, 2026, under the Amy Dicks Act, reckless endangerment involving the discharge of a deadly weapon toward multiple people is a Class B felony.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with additional video evidence, information about the shooting or information regarding Johnson’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Tallapoosa County Sheriff’s Office at 256-825-4264.

The sheriff’s office thanked the Dadeville Police Department, Jackson’s Gap Police Department, Camp Hill Police Department, Alexander City Police Department and the Tallapoosa County Narcotics Task Force for their assistance, along with community members who provided information.

This investigation follows public statements from Lake Martin Beach Club, the Dadeville Alumni Committee and Tallapoosa County Schools regarding the gathering and events leading up to the shooting. Lake Martin Beach Club previously disputed portions of the committee’s account of the event arrangements.
