UPDATE · Oct 29, 11:30 AM

All Meriwether County school campuses will be releasing students early following a threat. The school district says students will be released early beginning at 11:45 a.m. today, Thursday, October 29, 2026. The lockdown will be lifted as buses and parental car riders arrive to pick up students. Law enforcement will be present throughout the dismissal process. “We apologize for any inconvenience this incident has caused,” the district said. “Thank you for your patience and support as we ensure the safety and well being of students and staff.” The details surrounding the threat remain unclear.

The Meriwether County Sheriff’s Office, in coordination with law enforcement partners from surrounding agencies, is actively investigating a reported threat involving Meriwether County schools.

All schools are currently secured and remain on lockdown as a precautionary measure. An increased law enforcement presence at area schools should be expected while the investigation continues.

“The safety of our students, faculty, and staff remains our highest priority,” officials said.

Officials ask the public to remain patient and avoid spreading unverified information.
