More West Point officers placed on leave after viral video; chief resignation not connected
An investigation remains ongoing into a viral video which shows a West Point officer using a racial slur and throwing a security camera, along with other officers standing nearby.
Monday afternoon, the department announced an officer, identified as Officer Donald Bramblett, was placed on administrative leave pending further investigation. Tuesday afternoon, additional officers were placed on paid administrative leave. The additional law enforcement officials were identified as Ofc. Dylan Harmon, Ofc. Zachary Heyboer, Sgt. William Osteen, and Det. Elizabeth Wegienka.
“The West Point Police Department is taking this matter very seriously, and has since turned the investigation over to the Georgia Bureau of Investigations (G.B.I.).,” a media release said.
The video, posted by Facebook user Tomeshia Madden, has been seen by at least 7,700 other users, shared and liked over 200 times.
We also asked authorities about Chief Donald Britt resigning from his top position. We are told Chief Britt put in his papers on August 3rd and his last day is August 24th. The reason for his resignation is unknown, but it’s in no relation to the current incidents that’s going on with Officer Bramblett and other officers of the department.
This is a developing story.
