LaGrange police shoot man who attempted to kidnap his wife
An officer involved shooting investigation is underway by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation after LaGrange police officers had to fire their weapons late Wednesday morning after man dragged his wife by his vehicle during an attempted kidnapping.
LaGrange police officers were dispatched around 10:55 A.M. on August 17, 2022, to 105 Moore’s Hill, in reference to a subject with a weapon.
“While en route, Officers were advised by the 911 Communication Center that the subject, later identified as Reginald Lamar Saffold, 10/04/1989, had forced his wife, Latisha Saffold, into a vehicle by knife point,” police said.
Once on scene, Officers made contact with both subjects in a vehicle operated by Reginald Saffold. Officers negotiated with Reginald Saffold to bring the situation to a peaceful resolution. During this exchange, Latisha Saffold exited the vehicle and attempted to flee at which time Reginald Saffold accelerated his vehicle intentionally striking Latisha Saffold. He then drove off the roadway dragging Latisha Saffold down an embankment.
“Officers fired their duty weapon’s at the vehicle in an attempt to stop the vehicle,” the agency added. “It came to rest at the bottom of the embankment as Latisha Saffold was pulled to safety by officers.”
Officers continued their dialogue with Reginald Saffold who revved the engine of the vehicle and gave Reginald Saffold numerous verbal commands to turn the vehicle off and exit the vehicle.
Receiving no response, Officers approached the vehicle and determined that Reginald Saffold had been struck by Officer’s gunfire.
Both Reginald and Latisha Saffold were treated on scene by emergency medical personnel and then transported to Well Star Hospital for treatment. Both were transferred to Piedmont Columbus Regional Medical Center for further care.
Reginald Saffold will be charged with Attempted Murder, Aggravated Assault and Kidnapping all as Family Violence Acts. No other details have been confirmed
