LaGrange man assaults woman and steals her phone as children watch
A LaGrange man is facing charges after a domestic disturbance early Saturday morning on the northern side of LaGrange.
LaGrange patrol officers responded to 300 Creekside Drive on September 10, 2022, at approximately 2:40 A.M. about a domestic disturbance.
Officers met with the victim who advised that her children’s father, Demetrius Smith, forced his way into her home and assaulted her by hitting her repeatedly in the head and throwing her to the ground causing visible injuries before stealing her cell phone and leaving the location.
“The incident occurred in the presence of their two juvenile children,” police said.
Smith was located at his new residence and detained. After interviewing all involved parties and witnesses the evidence suggests that Smith committed Burglary FVA, Battery FVA, and two counts of Cruelty to a Child 3rd Degree and was taken into custody and then transported to the Troup County Jail. Smith was not on probation or parole at the time of this incident.
