Driver reverses vehicle, almost strikes LaGrange officer, then takes off during traffic stop
A LaGrange police officer is thankful to be uninjured after a driver reversed their vehicle almost striking the officer and then fleeing from the traffic stop.
A LaGrange officer was conducting a concentrated patrol on N. Dawson Street when she was passed by a vehicle, with the rear passenger door open and a female screaming for help on October 14, 2022, at approximately 4:24 P.M.
The officer attempted to make a traffic stop on the vehicle; however, the vehicle stopped in the driveway of 207 Davis Street, prior to the traffic stop. After exiting her vehicle, the officer requested that the female step out of the vehicle and relocate to the front of her patrol car.
Before the parties made it to the patrol car, the operator of the vehicle placed the vehicle in reverse, attempting to strike both the passenger and the officer. At this time, the passenger entered the vehicle, which left the scene. The female passenger has yet to be identified, but the driver was identified as Rickey Lamar McFarland. Warrants for McFarland have been issued for Aggravated Assault Upon A Peace Officer and Felony Obstruction.
At the time of this incident, McFarland was on felony probation.
If anyone has any information about this incident, please contact the LaGrange Police Department at 706 883-2603 or Troup County Crime Stoppers at 706 812-1000.
