Georgia police, kids participate in successful, annual Cops, Kids, and Christmas
Law enforcement from across West Georgia participated in Cops, Kids, and Christmas, an annual event held by the Fraternal Order of Police since 1989.
The event back at 400 4th Street, the Civic Center Ice Rink, where 80 officers, from Columbus Police Department, Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office, Muscogee County School District Police Department, Muscogee County Prison, Columbus State University Police Department, Paroles and Probations, Waverly Hall Police Department, Harris County Sheriff’s Office, and Hamilton Police Department, were paired with their exciting young children.
Fifty kids across the city were paired with their officer and got to ride, running lights and sirens, in the 7-mile long route along Veterans Parkway onto Whittesley Boulevard, into the Walmart Supercenter parking lot. Kids and officers walked into the store and began their merry way to the toy section and other sections of the store to shop for their mom dad, family, pets, and most of all themselves.
After shopping, with the $150.00 dollars each kid was given to shop with, they checked out and then their presents were immediately wrapped by wrappers.
The Fraternal Order of Police stated: We do this each year to help kids in our community have a positive interaction with law enforcement as well as to make sure they have a wonderful Christmas. Each officer donates their time every year to the event. They are not paid or compensated in any way other than with a smile and a new best friend.
The total amount of money put toward the shopping money was $7,500.00, CNAW2NEWS.com was told. Our outlet was also told this was the biggest turnout ever.
