Police: LaGrange man faked armed robbery story as his rent was late
Officers and detectives from the LaGrange Police Department responded to 1610 Whitesvile Street (Stay Lodge Extended Stay) in reference to an Armed Robbery on January 26, 2023, at approximately 6:30 A.M.
When officers arrived they met with the alleged victim, Victor Mullens, who stated he had been robbed at gunpoint by an unknown black male while he was taking trash to the dumpster.
At this time a K-9 officer was used to try and locate the alleged suspect, as well as a drone with infrared capability. As numerous officers maintained a perimeter, searched the wooded area around the Stay Lodge and manned the drone, other officers and detectives viewed the surveillance video from this location to try and determine an identity of the suspect.
During the viewing of the surveillance video evidence was found to show this robbery never happened. With this information, Mullens was taken to the LaGrange Police Department and interviewed about this new information.
“During this interview Mullens admitted he was NOT robbed and in fact had made the story up as his rent was late,” police said. Mullens was released at this time and a warrant was obtained for his arrest for Making a False Statement.
