86 grave marker vases stolen from Auburn cemetery, police say
Auburn police are on the hunt for a cemetery thief after 86 grave marker vases were stolen in 2 days.
The hunt began when the Auburn Police Department met with representatives of Memorial Park Cemetery located at 1000 E Samford Ave at approximately 3 P.M. on Feb. 2, 2023, in response to a theft complaint of approximately 86 grave marker vases stolen between February 1 and February 2.
The stolen items are described as approximately 12-inch tall bronze vases, used to mark various graves within the Memorial Park Cemetery, many of which belong to veterans. These items are not only valuable in raw materials, but have sentimental value to the loved ones of those laid to rest in the cemetery.
“It is believed the subject responsible for the theft will attempt to sell the stolen items as scrap metal,” police said.
Auburn Police Department asks for the public’s assistance in this ongoing investigation. Scrap yards and similar businesses are asked to report suspicious sales resembling the stolen items.
Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact Detective Greg Miller at 334-501-3145. Tips may also be provided to police on Auburn’s Public Safety smartphone application. You may wish to remain anonymous.
