Phenix City man brutally kills dog after dog urinates on carpet, investigators say
A brutal crime is under investigation in east Alabama after a man killed his own dog.
The investigation began when Lee County deputies received a report regarding animal abuse in the 11000 block of Lee Road 240 on April 8, 2023, and when they responded, they made contact with 27-year-old Eric Zeth Wheeless, from Phenix City.
Wheeless admitted to investigators that he killed one of his dogs because the dog urinated on the carpet. Wheelers used a hatchet to kill the dog.
Deputies were able to confirm that the dog had been brutally killed and buried in a shallow grave in the wooded area behind the residence.
“On April 10, 2023, Lee County Investigators made contact with Wheeless at his residence,”investigators said. He was arrested and charged with one felony count of Aggravated Cruelty to Animals and 1 count of Possession of a Controlled Substance. He is being held in the Lee County Jail on a $6,500.00 bond.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Lee County Sheriff’s Office at 334-749-5651 or Central Alabama Crime Stoppers at 334-215-STOP (7867).
