Driver passes away after vehicle submerges in water following crash on Troup County interstate
Georgia State Patrol is investigating a deadly crash after vehicle crashed into a creek below I-85 in Troup County.
The crash occurred on I-85 South near mile marker 26 just south of the city of Hogansville, on September 4, 2025.
Troopers say a grey GMC Sierra HD was traveling south in the left lane and traveled into the median and struck the guardrail with its front bumper.
“After striking the guardrail, the vehicle struck the embankment and trees and came to an uncontrolled rest submerged in water,” state troopers added.
The driver was pronounced deceased on scene. Troup County Coroner Erin Hackley identified the driver as 48-year-old Cleveland “Clarke” Stallings, of Hamilton.
The interstate was shut down in both directions while authorities worked the crash, but has since been reopened. Georgia State Patrol remains investigating the collision.
