Auburn police, park and recreation teaming up to enhance security features at parks
The City of Auburn Parks and Recreation Department and the Auburn Police Department are actively collaborating to enhance security features and capabilities in multiple city parks and facilities.
The city is working to develop solutions that complement the environment while providing increased security. In the near future, citizens may see additional equipment deployed for this purpose.
“While it’s not possible to completely cover every area of all of our park properties with video surveillance, personnel and technology, we are always committed to finding ways to improve safety and security throughout Auburn,” said Public Safety Director Will Mathews. “I’d like to remind everyone that our best protection continues to be the eyes and ears, keen observations and willingness to report suspicious activity by our friends and neighbors.”
This follows a deadly attack on Dr. Julie Schnuelle at Auburn’s Kiesel Park last weekend. A suspect has been arrested in the case.
The Auburn Police Department encourages anyone that observes suspicious behavior or incidents to call 911 or the non-emergency number, 334-501-3100, to provide that information.
