Jail records identify suspect in aggravated sexual battery of CSU student in parking deck
CNAW2News has confirmed via jail records suspect in yesterday’s aggravated sexual battery and rape of a CSU student in a city parking garage has been booked into jail.
The incident occurred during the afternoon hours in broad daylight on Friday, September 26, 2025, in a city parking deck that serves students and staff at the Columbus State University’s RiverPark campus.
Columbus State University confirmed in a statement the suspect fled the scene but was later caught and arrested by officials.
While the university did not say where the suspect was arrested, CNAW2News was told by sources the suspect was arrested following a high speed chase which ended on Linwood Boulevard.
According to Muscogee County Jail records, the suspect, identified as Hosni Batebawai, was booked into the jail around 1 A.M. on September 27, 2025, and charged with aggravated sexual battery, aggravated assault, rape, and hijacking a motor vehicle – second degree.
According to jail records, in October of 2024, Batebawai was arrested by Columbus PD for public indecency, willful obstruction of law enforcement officers, and terroristic threats — all misdemeanors.
According to jail records via ECourt Portal, he was released on those charges on Friday, September 26, 2025, at 10:23 A.M. after serving a year on those charges.
The aggravated sexual battery and rape incident occurred hours later following his release in a city parking deck.
The student’s condition is unknown.
According to a university statement, the university’s police department remains investigating.
