According to police reports obtained through an open records request, the sergeant first encountered Elizabeth Smith, 30, in February 2022 while responding to a Department of Family and Children Services call. Since then, investigators say Smith has repeatedly contacted the sergeant through phone calls, social media messages, and explicit text messages.
The sergeant told officers each incident of unwanted contact was reported to the Columbus Police Department. A review of Smith’s Facebook account also showed conversations with her mother, confirming she was the primary user.
On Aug. 22, officers attempted to locate Smith at police headquarters after confirming warrants for harassing communications and stalking. At that time, police noted a temporary protective order requiring Smith to stay at least 500 feet from the sergeant’s workplace.
On Sunday, Sept. 28, around 9:30 a.m., law enforcement officers made contact with Smith again and arrested her on an aggravated stalking warrant. She was transported to the Muscogee County Jail.
Smith was scheduled for a first appearance on Tuesday, Sept. 30, and is being held without bond. Her next court hearing is set for Friday, Oct. 3, at 8 a.m.
