Georgia officials urge SNAP recipients to plan ahead amid ongoing federal shutdown
As the federal government shutdown continues into its 24th day, the Georgia Department of Human Services is addressing the concern over SNAP benefits.
In a press statement Friday, the Georgia DHS said they were notified by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) that if the federal government shutdown continues, there may not be enough funding to issue November SNAP (food stamp) benefits.
For now, SNAP recipients can continue using the funds already on their EBT cards. However, if the shutdown is not resolved by November, cards may stop working as soon as November 1, 2025.
The Georgia DHS advised all recipients to plan ahead and shop for any essential items as soon as possible.
“DHS understands how important SNAP benefits are to Georgia families and is closely monitoring the situation,” they said.
Recipients can check their EBT balances via the ConnectEBT website or app. Community resources are available at this link – dhs.georgia.gov/community-resources-0 – for anyone who needs support.
