Lee County woman charged after attempting to smother four-month-old infant daughter
A Lee County woman is now in jail after attempting to smother her infant daughter.
Lee County deputies responded to the 200 block of Lee Road 212 after dispatchers received a 9-1-1 call about a mother attempting to smother her four-month-old infant daughter around 12:38 AM on November 24, 2025.
As deputies arrived on scene, they contacted several individuals who stated that 28-year-old Mireire Johana Garcia Lucero, from Phenix City, was trying to suffocate her baby.
“Witnesses also stated that they observed Lucero choke and shake the baby to get her to stop crying,” the sheriff’s office said.
ETS responded to the scene and transported the infant to Piedmont Hospital in Columbus, GA, to be medically assessed by a physician.
At the time of transport, the baby was alert and seemed to be in good health.
Lucero was arrested and transported to the Lee County Detention Center, where she was charged with one count of Torture and Willful Abuse of a Child and one count of Attempted Murder. She is being held in the Lee County Jail on an $85,000.00 bond.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Lee County Sheriff’s Office at 334-749-5651 or Central Alabama Crime Stoppers at 334-215-STOP (7867).
