Troup County inmate dies after being found unresponsive in jail cell
A Troup County inmate has died after being found unresponsive in her jail cell bed.
Troup County Sheriff’s Office says their detention officers were in the process of the morning head count and breakfast distribution on November 26, 2025, when they found the female inmate unresponsive in her bed.
The officers immediately notified additional personnel along with the Jail medical staff who began lifesaving measures, according to the sheriff’s office. Fire and EMS arrived on scene and took over care, and later transported to Well Star West Georgia Medical Center, where she died a short time later.
The inmate has been identified as Cherika Teague, 44, of LaGrange.
“As standard procedure the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was notified and will be conducted and independent investigation,” the sheriff’s office said.
