Man charged after threatening to harm family, shoot up residence in Beulah
A Lee County man is behind bars after threatening to harm his family and shoot up a residence in the Beulah community.
The incident began around 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 28, after public safety tele-communicators received a 9-1-1 call advising 36-year-old Jacob Matthew Brown was threatening to travel to his residence to harm his wife and children and “shoot up” the house.
“The caller also advised that two days prior to this incident, Brown held a gun to a family member’s head and threatened them,” authorities said. “A description of Brown’s vehicle and the handgun used was provided at the time of the 9-1-1 call.”
Lee County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 1800 block of Lee Road 270 in Cusseta, AL, to conduct a welfare check on the family. When deputies arrived in the area, they observed the suspect’s vehicle travelling toward the residence.
Deputies immediately initiated a traffic stop, and Brown was contacted.
“He admitted to deputies that he did make the threats because he was angry,” authorities said. “Deputies observed a handgun through the front window of the vehicle in plain view that appeared to be the same type of handgun described by the caller.”
Brown was taken into custody, and a small quantity of methamphetamine was located on his person. Deputies also located two rifles in the trunk of the vehicle.
Brown was charged with one count of domestic violence third degree (menacing), one count of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, and one count of certain persons forbidden to carry a firearm.
He is being held in the Lee County Detention Center on a $12,000.00 bond.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Lee County Sheriff’s Office at 334-749-5651 or Central Alabama Crime Stoppers at 334-215-STOP (7867).
