Terrence Johnson, the president of TKJ By His Grace Ministries Inc. and the executive director of By His Grace Daycare and Learning Center, was arrested on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2026.
Johnson was charged with two counts of arson related to the fires that occurred at By His Grace Daycare and Learning Center and at Children Palace Learning Center in Opelika during the month of January.
Johnson issued a statement Thursday saying it was a “difficult moment”, while also remaining focused on his campaign and the community.

“To the citizens of District 82, my focus remains on you and the work ahead,” Johnson said in a statement. “I am aware of the serious allegations currently before me. While this is a difficult moment, it does not diminish my commitment to serving our community with integrity and dedication.”
Johnson did not address specifics of the allegations in the statement but said his “commitment to you and to the future of our district remains steadfast and unwavering.”
Johnson has asked the public to evaluate his record in the community.
“I ask that you continue to evaluate my record — not just as a candidate, but as someone who has consistently invested in this community,” Johnson said. “We cannot allow this moment to distract us from the important work still to be done.”
Johnson says he would continue advocating for progress in District 82 and said he plans to remain active in the race.
