LaGrange fire officials extinguish Saturday night structure fire
The LaGrange Fire Department and Troup County Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 226 Hearthstone Drive on Saturday, Feb. 28, 2026, at 7:04 p.m.
Truck 32 arrived first and reported the home fully involved.
Firefighters later determined the blaze was largely confined to the attic, with exterior damage caused by melting vinyl siding that ignited materials near the base of the house. A neighboring home sustained minor siding damage due to radiant heat.
Crews initially attacked the fire from outside before entering the home to conduct search-and-rescue operations and extinguish remaining flames beneath the roofline.
Five cats were rescued from the residence and cared for until LaGrange Animal Control arrived. The cats were transported to Auburn Emergency Vet for treatment for smoke inhalation; two were listed in critical condition. All five have since been returned to their owner.
The homeowner was out of town at the time of the fire. The residence was declared a total loss. The cause of the fire remains undetermined.
Officials remind residents to ensure smoke detectors are working and to keep interior doors closed to help slow the spread of fire.
