Brush fire in south Russell County contained
A brush fire in south Russell County has been contained.
Fort Mitchell fire crews responded to a brush fire at Patterson Road and Terminal Road around 7:39 p.m. on Monday, Mar. 9, 2026.
Crews arrived and were able to contain the fire within five acres.
A man who found the fire told CNAW2News.com, identified as Jonathan Johnson, said him and a friend called 911 and tried to put out the fire before crews arrived.
“It looked like a tree in the center of the circle I was standing in might have been the cause. The tree was like charcoal, as if it had been burning for a while,” Johnson said, when asked what he thought may have caused the fire. “If it wasn’t the tree, there were also a couple of cigarette butts on the ground [that could have started it.]”
Alabama Forestry Commission said the fire was contained at 9:15 p.m.
