LaGrange officials rescues over 25 animals from neglected home; dozens more found deceased
A large-scale animal rescue was launched at a LaGrange home earlier this month after police received a report of several animals being left without care.
Officers and animal control officials responded to the home and confirmed the homeowner was at a nearby medical facility for an extended period of time receiving treatment.
Officials recovered a surviving 25 cats and one dog from the home, with all of them being transported to a local shelter. They are currently receiving necessary medical evaluations and care.
Officials say they also found an additional 20-plus cats dead, calling the discovery a “tragic scene”.
Due to the state of the property, Code Enforcement officers assisted at the scene and have since deemed the residence uninhabitable. The City is currently working with the homeowner to bring the property back into compliance with local building codes.
“The police department’s primary priority in this case was the health and welfare of these animals,” said Sergeant Matt Fowler. “We are grateful that we could step in to provide these pets with the medical attention they so desperately needed.”
No other details have been released at this time.
