Man arrested during manhunt after shooting 5 people in ATL medical center and carjacking vehicle
Midtown Atlanta was sheltered in place all afternoon after a shooter opened fire inside a medical center leaving five people shot, and then carjacking a vehicle, which led to a massive manhunt across Cobb County.
The alleged shooter, later identified as Deion Patterson, walked into Northside Hospital at 1110 West Peachtree Street NW. Patterson stayed inside the hospital for two minutes and allegedly shot five women. The Atlanta Journal Constitution reported a 39-year-old woman was dead, with four others between the ages of 21-71 were injured.
Patterson then fled on foot to a Shell gas station near 14th Street and Williams Street and carjacked an unattended and running truck. Patterson drove the vehicle to Cobb County, where cameras spotted the tag of the vehicle at around 12:30 P.M. near Truist Park. The vehicle was located shortly thereafter.
Hours later, as the manhunt continued, Patterson was located and immediately detained in Cobb County. Patterson was transported to Atlanta Police Headquarters where he will face several charges.
